I Is For Inspiration

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

--Louisa May Alcott

The imagination is a powerful thing and it it the theme for my YA, Portrayer. I can write a lengthy post on what it truly means to me, but that's not what I want to know. Today I want to delve into your soul and discover where you get your inspiration to write and what inspires you?

My ideas come from the drama called life. The concept for my MG came from a tragic loss in my family and the fact that I wasn't there to do something; whereas my drive for the craft is a tad selfish, because writing is about the only thing I can do--I suck at math. I call it selfish because I never truly wanted to do anything else as a boy, except maybe draw, and that is not fair to the overall development of my intellectual thought processes.

I blame the Bible. Those stories were so out-of-this-word-crazy, it just got my little mind going and from that moment on, I was hooked. Damn you Jesus! :D

But each and everyone of us are unique. What inspires me might deter you. So, what inspires you to write?

That is a big question. I've always enjoyed writing, and when I was younger I spent most of my time making up stories and writing them down in coloured felt tip pens lol.

I guess it's life that inspires me. And people. :D

Touche! Honestly, people are a beautiful species. As a writer, we're like scientists analyzing their behavior. It is quit exciting, I must say.

I honestly can't remember not writing. I guess I was just that kind of kid who always made up stories and then made her parents sit still and listen to them even though they had AMAZING titles like "The Princess and the Mean Genie." It was a work of art.

Once my parents shot down my dream of being an actress (and, in the process, my teen dream of marrying Leonardo DiCaprio), I just knew what I wanted to do: write. (Granted, I would have liked to write *and* marry Leonardo DiCaprio, but the restraining order makes that kind of hard to do now. (Kidding.)

In terms of what inspires my stories, it's funny because the littlest things can inspire me. A photo or part of a song or even something someone says in passing.

What inspires me are the voices ;)

They just don't shut up! And as I walk around this crazy, wonderful, beautiful, sometimes sad world, I can't help but want to use as much as I can to create something of my very own.

I guess i'm sorta selfish too ;0

What inspires me? Everything. Everywhere. Every darned day.

I think part of my inspiration comes from my childhood and upbringing. And the other part from life. What I see, hear, feel, do...all of these elements are a source from which I draw inspiration...I think. (:
