con·vic·tion (kn-vkshn)
n.
I am currently reading Fifty Shades of Grey and, I must sadly admit that, I had to put aside my conviction and succumb to the allure of this read.
Folks, I got a stiffy.
I DO NOT read erotica, nor do I read books that are as trite as this, but there is something about it that is pulling me in. I spent four hours last night trying to finish chapter six and I was disappointed I had to put it down.
It isn't the writing that's captivating (the characters, scenes, worldbuilding or sex for that matter), it's the idea of meeting someone new and giving yourself, mind and soul, to their every raunchy, mouthwatering, bootylicious, BDSM desire. Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?
The book is basically about what we do when we meet someone new, which is have lots of sex. It is this very "energy" that beguiles so many to love this book. I think psychologists call it "New Relationship Energy." But what do I know?
Fifty Shades of Grey is a novel I would never have touched if it weren't for the fact that I will soon endeavor into this territory. I firmly believe erotica should only be read by women (for obvious reasons), but I need to see what works if I am to write one successfully.
So, with my conviction aside, I shall thread further into the Grey.
Wish me luck.

I love how you picked up something you would normally run screaming from for the sake of learning what works and what doesn't. Good for you! :D
So it's not just 'mommy porn'?
That sounds like a fun book. I love reading erotica.
Kyra - Even though the writing is bad, the characters are made of paper and the dialogue is so cheesy, there is an electricity there and I want to capture that in my own writing.
farawayeyes - It is not 'mommy porn.' That is a silly term the media created because they insist on 'dumbing-down' everything for the public. It is what I said it is: a girl meeting a hot guy and having lots of kinky sex.
Michael - I do not fancy it, but I want to know why this book did so well, and I think I figured it out.
What are you saying? Guys aren't smart enough to enjoy erotica? ;)
No. It's written for women, that's all. What a woman might find sexy is repulsive to a man, like in FSOG, Ana keeps referring to Christian's penis in the most unsavory way.
I about gagged most of the time. LOL.
If you really want to be thorough in your research on the subject you should also read Anne Rice's The claiming of Sleeping Beauty. But I guess that falls more under pornography than erotica. And I don't think you're ready for that, lol. But it is a well written book in a very twisted way. (;
I have to do a little checking on Fifty Shades of Grey to see what is the hotness about it. I've heard quite a few people mention how much they enjoyed it.
Oh my gosh, am I gonna giggle every time I read your posts??
I find it ironic that you are at 169 followers...now I am giggling like a 6th grader!
I read badly written books to learn what not to do. Cool post.
Since you're taking part in a family-friendly challenge, we would appreciate it if you put a mature content warning on your blog for the duration of April.
Look forward to your challenge run…
