Characters We Love

I'm alive!

Yes! I found a way to cheat the eight marks of death; all you need is a crit partner, spell check and (BOOM!) those horrible omens are no more!

There are a lot of characters who resonate with us when we partake of visual and literary art, but there is always that one individual who we look at and go WOW.

For me, that individual is Albus Dumbledore.

He is the Headmaster of Hogwarts, of course, and the most powerful wizard, but he is also the weirdest character I've seen in a while. He floats around with grace and poise  - never shows anger in times of dire; always smiles and is always one step ahead of you. But even though his mere presence is like standing before a wise, old king, Albus Dumbledore is also very quirky.

His fascination of sweets and gadgets is not the denominator; that honor goes to his somewhat...um..."crazy" way of holding a conversation and being distracted by various things, like a child would.

That simply heightens my admiration for a powerful man who isn't the cookie-cutter mold of perfection beyond reproach - even Cornelisu Fudge, the Minister of Magic, was quirky and he had to be perfect!

Another character I adore is the Omega-Level Mutant Dark Phoenix; not Phoenix, mind you, but her sinister alter ego (think Black Swan...).

Considered one of the most powerful mutants alive, this bodacious firebird is all power. But unlike some women who's alter egos ravage with kitchen utensils, her rage can destroy an entire planet.

Now that's what you call a BOMBSHELL!

Who's your favorite character from literature and film?

My favorite character from literature I think is Garion in David Eddings' Belgariad books.

From film, I think in the spirit of you picking a bad guy (Dark Phoenix) I'm going to go with Darth Vader. I think he was done really well.

I did like the Dark Phoenix saga done in the original X-men comics. She was so spectacular though that I think it was impossible not to like her and the way the phoenix force allowed her to eat entire suns.

With comic books I'm kind of torn. I like the Marvel Universe overall better than I do the D.C. universe. However, my favorite heroes are D.C. That is, I like the Flash, the Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Teen Titans. I'm an old schooler that thought George Perez is/was the best comic book artist to have ever lived (way better than McFarlane).

I'll second your Dumbledore pick. I love him.

Can I cheat and pick a TV show instead of film? Because I'd go with Walter Bishop on Fringe. He's scatterbrained and hilarious.

My answer: The main character (he's a man at the start and end/boy in the middle) from WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS. Would totally marry that guy, if I wasn't married to a wonderful person already.

It's so interesting to read about other people's fancy.

I have to agree with you on everything Michael.

Of course you can choose Tv as well, Tracy, and thanks for stopping by Anita.

My favorite character from literature is a toss up between Severus Snape and Sirius Black. I vary between them both depending on my mood.

You have some great choices here. Albus Dumbledore really was something else.

My favorite bad guy . . . the one I hate to love . . . is the monster from Neal Shusterman's Everlost. The McGill is the monster of all monsters. From his conception to his end. Genius! His complexity, his humor and commitment to his dream . . . I love that monster! (Even though I wanted to see him come to an end.) Does that make sense?

Tyson - on an aside, just saw one of your comments on the blueboard thread and laughed my butt off. (it was the anthology story being pulled thread)Oh, still wiping tears away - ah I needed that laugh. Thanks.

And characters I love?

Hmmmmm, if I were going to be an x-men, I'd choose Rogue. not the silly movie version, but the one from the comics that is super strong, can fly and steal your powers. Gotta love that.

I have so many favorite characters. I fondly recall Harvey Swick from THE THIEF OF ALWAYS by Clive Barker and Troy (the ultimate male lead in a romance) from V.C. Andrews' DARK ANGEL.

So many wonderful characters. Of course, i'm with you on Albus Dumbledore. I found so many of the HP characters are rich and full. That is why she is beloved. Actually was Rowling who inspired me to write.

Her chemistry between her characters are flawless.

Dickens is another one of my all favorite writers. He really got into the heads of his characters.

I always found Heathcliff an intriguing character. I think I like characters that are complicated and damaged the most. They stick with me.

Then again, I love an unlikely hero. Charlotte, for example. I am creeped out by spiders, but to this day I cannot kill them (I have husband use a tissue--gently--to take it outside) because I think of Charlotte. I can't be responsible for killing Charlotte!

I feel like Sophie...I can't choose one character. There are too many good ones out there.
