What Keeps You Going?

There's a saying that goes: when the going gets tough, the tough get going. But there must be some inspiration behind that.

It isn't always easy finding the strength to keep going, that's for sure; whether it be climbing that insurmountable mountain, reaching the finish line of the New York Marathon or simply getting out of bed to go to work everyday, finding the strength to keep going is, well, tough.

Lately, work has been beating my ass and I'm so tired and frustrated. Sometimes I feel like quitting and running off to a beach in the Bahamas for a week (month, year -- a millennia!) but, alas, I have bills to pay.  It sucks when you want a break and you can't get it, especially when your sanity is hanging by a flimsy, silky spider's thread.

But I keep going because I love what I do. It is as simply as that.

In truth,  I guess that's why we all do what we do? Virtue. Honesty, integrity, courage, compassion...they drive us, lift us, enfold us and carry us through the darkest of times. So do the people we care about. If virtue is the soul of our drive, then those we love the most are the flesh and blood. And it doesn't matter if it's you, your children or that special someone -- we keep going because we can -- because we must --; because when the world and everything around us seem lost in translation...we have the body and soul to tough it out.

Sorry you're having a rough time at the moment. :(

England's very nice at this time of year! ;) Lol, actually that's not true. Rain is bouncing off my windows as I type, but if you ever get that break, you should come over and say hello! :D

Elizabeth: I hope so. I really need a breather.

Kyra: I love England! I love the old english countrysides with the picket fences and green pastures; I love Scottish, Irish and English accents; I love tea at noon (sometimes); I love the people and their proper way of speaking--man, I just love England. I'm planning to visit next year, so I hope you give me a tour.

I feel like I could've written this post as well. Right now what's keeping me going is a lot of encouragement from my writer peeps. So if you need a kick in the pants, or a cyber chest bump or hug, let me know :)

Is it weird if I say chocolate? Yes? Hmmm...I'll have to think.

Cassie: You're so amazing! Thanks so much and I'll definitely take you p on that.

Angela: As long as it gets you where you need to go, it doesn't matter. And fyi, I like chocolate too. I love Milky Way. :D

I hear what you're saying. My job is pretty high profile that includes lots of travel and shmoozing.

Plus I have three little ones, so my time is very limited. Forces me to write in small bursts...and that's the best I can do for now!

"I keep going because I love what I do."

This says it all. :) I keep going because I love to write. And even if I knew I'd never get published, I'd still write. It's in my blood. :)

Hope you get that break soon!!

For me it's the little things. Like reading a great blog post written by a talented young writer late at night with a cup of strong decaf.
